WISE: Gypsy Moth an Exotic Species

I, Kristen, work as a consultant/facilitator for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. I worked for the DNR previously, as a Gypsy Moth Trap Collector. With a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in Natural Resources and Environmental Education, I offer WISE trainings throughout the state of Wisconsin. These trainings are available to teachers and professionals in the field. The WISE website was developed over 10 years of work at the University of Berkeley at California. The Gypsy Moth Project is supported by the WDNR with the goal being to develop an of understanding of this exotic species. Use of WISE in the classroom integrates environmental and technology standards into the curriculum. WISE contains several categories of projects that are beneficial to all types of science teachers.

"Get WISE About Gypsy Moth!"

WISE is a simple but powerful learning environment where students in grades 7-12 (and in some cases, as low as 4th) examine real world evidence and analyze current scientific controversies. Our curriculum projects are designed to meet standards and compliment your current science curriculum. A web browser is all students need to journal, organize data, and discuss their arguments. Through WISE, students access current scientific information on a closed Internet site. You facilitate their learning and our Teacher Area lets you grade your student's work on the Web. You can even author your own projects!

Best of all, everything in WISE is totally FREE!

Working at ComputerWISE is a project developed by the Department of Education at the University of California at Berkeley. WISE is funded by the National Science Foundation. The Gypsy Moth Project was designed by UC-Berkeley in partnership with the WDNR, MNDNR, and USFS. To register, visit the website and click on the "Join WISE" button.
